Emmys worst dressed: Creased and shiny Vs shapeless... Olivia Munn and Katie Holmes fight it out for the fashion faux pas award

Last night's Emmys awards ceremony could broadly be described as a triumph of style and sophistication. Nevertheless, there were some A-listers who, despite paying celebrity stylists an arm and a leg (many earn a staggering £10,000 for a day's work), still fail to make the mark.
Worse, they wear outfits that are neither flattering nor photographer-friendly - a curse when the bank of ruthless paps are snapping at a rate of  thousand frames a second.
The resulting fashion flops were few, but convincing. In her jade green satin Carolina Herrera gown - creased at the hips and not structured enough - actress Olivia Munn had viewers wondering why they were suddenly left with a hankering for the green one from the Quality Street box.
Olivia Munn: Green Quality Street, anyone? 'Does my bum look big in this?' Yes, Tom should have told Katie Holmes
Olivia Munn: Gave viewers hankering for the green one in the Quality Street box in creased Carolina Herrera. Katie Holmes in Calvin Klein: 'Does my bum look big in this?' Frankly, yes. And have you got it on backwards?
Her hair though - a sleek 20s do by celebrity stylist Mika Fowler - was her saving grace.
It was a tut-tut too for willowy Katie Holmes, who can do better than this cobalt sheath dress from the Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa. The colour is fantastic, the top half subtle and nicely figure-skimming - but the excess fabric at the waist and hips bloused out on the slim star.
Did she not ask husband Tom Cruise the dreaded question that every man fears before she left Cruise Towers in her limo: 'Does my bum look big in this'? Perhaps she did, but he didn't dare risk losing a limb by answering yes.
Julianna Marguiles: Stiff and bridal

Paz de la Huerta went for a sulttry look, but looked like she'd been starved of oxygen and dragged through a bust
Paz de la Huerta:  Attempted sultry; achieved 'starved of oxgyen, dragged through bush backwards'. Blue lips, anyone?
Phoebe Price: Fussy and frightful

Actress Zooey Deschanel in what bloggers have called a 'Pepto Bismol' pink prom dress
13-year-old Ariel Winter from Modern Family showed way too much cleavage for a girl just into her teens
Frock, horror: Actress Zooey Deschanel, 31, in what bloggers have called a 'Pepto-Bismol' pink prom dress; 13-year-old Ariel Winter from Modern Family showed way too much cleavage for a girl just into her teens
The 'just got out of the shower' bun let her down too. Fab for a weekend around the house, frump for a night on the red carpet.
Elsewhere, Zooey Deschanel's 'Pepto-Bismol' pink prom dress won her few admirers (too pink, too taffeta, too creased), while Modern Family's young teen star Ariel Winter showed far too much cleavage for a girl of just 13.
As for Phoebe Price (yes, it's fine not to know who she is), her cluttered aesthetic - fascinator and flowers - was a fright-mare better suited to a suburban wedding. Simple sophistication works best on the red carpet.
THE JURY'S OUT...
We think Gwyneth Paltrow, Heidi Klum and Minka Kelly looked stunning at the Emmys in adventurous gowns that struck the right balance between fashionable and flattering. However, the celebrity blogger community had them down as fashion flops. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
Though we admired Gwyneth's style, many celebrity sites said her exposed midriff was out of place at such a glam event
