On Our Radar: Generic Man Turns Four

As names go, “The Generic Man” has always felt a little right and a little wrong. On one hand, who wants to feel generic? And on the other, who can deny that the label’s understated shoes for guys and girls (they helped to lead the charge on the girls-in-menswear-styled oxfords movement) are classic enough to feel trend-proof? However you take the moniker, the L.A.-based label has been cranking out kicks for four years now, and to celebrate its birthday, it created a handmade, limited-to-12-pairs men’s chukka. What’s more, they’ve partnered with two fellow California businesses to sweeten the deal: The Vibram-soled chukkas will be available only at L.A.’s Mohawk General Store, and come with a bottle of TGM Four wine—44 percent cabernet sauvignon̬from Saarloos and Sons in Los Olivos. Are they Generic or generic? Here’s to four more years of splitting the difference.

$425, available at www.mohawkgeneralstore.net.
